Will the new iPad or iPad3 with 4G work in India?

by Himanshu Gupta on April 18, 2012

The third version of the most popular tablet in the world, the new iPad 4G is going to launch in India on 27th April 2012. Apple has launched its new iPad in India after it announced the same on 7th March 2012. The first thing which bugging the people who are looking forward to the new iPad is, will the new tablet from Apple which has 4G LTE compatibility work in India?

will the new ipad work in india

In India, 4G is just launched a few days back by Airtel and that too in only one city which is Kolkata. But the band on which the new iPad 4G LTE works is not available in India as per now. The frequency bands on which the Apple tablet runs is yet to be auctioned by the Indian Government to the telecom service providers. In simple terms 4G in the new iPad will not work in India.

And now obviously the question arises if the new iPad will work on the already available 2G and 3G networks? Yes, it will. The tablet is compatible to run on 2G and 3G. Running the iPad on 2G is completely a waste of time and money so its better to use 3G instead if you are planning to buy one.

Apple has officially declared that – 4G LTE is supported only on AT&T and Verizon networks in the U.S. and on Bell, Rogers and Telus networks in Canada. So there is no point in considering it as a 4G device if you are going to operate the device in any other country than ones stated above.

So should you buy the WiFi only version or WiFi+4G version?

It depends on the user for sure. If you are going to use it while traveling from one place to another without any Wi-Fi connection then you should consider the WiFi+4G version since it will work on 3G data connection for sure. And if you are going to use it mostly in a Wi-Fi zone then go for the Wi-Fi only version as it is comparatively cheaper.
