Movies and Songs are the worst hit products by piracy. Every year this industry looses billions of dollars due to the piracy of content. File sharing sites such napster, megaupload makes the sharing of content so easy that people find it easier to access them there rather than paying for the same. But Apple’s iTunes somehow made the situation better by allowing the users to buy a single track which was really a very successful step.
Watching full HD movies for free on online and that too legal was a dream till yesterday. Because now its true you can view the latest Bollywood movie online on YouTube and that too free. I think it can help to keep those illegal torrents at bay.
YouTube has introduced a channel named Box Office that will feature a film every month. This month youtube is running Band Baaja Baarat starring Anushka Sharma and Ranveer. This channel is only available for Indian’s, will be blocked for other nations.
So how are they earning? Advertisements is the answer, no points for guessing. Intel is the key sponsor. After every 10 –minutes there will be an advertisement for 15 seconds which you cannot skip, pause etc.
Well this is great initiative to keep a check on the piracy, if they increase the frequency of updating with latest movies. Since a month a quite a long time as compared to rate at which movies in India launch. Idea like iTunes can really help the entertainment industry to encourage the use of legit content. Piracy is something which can’t be eliminated in a day or two but is very long process. And it is next to impossible to stop piracy completely but if proper measures are takes the percentage of pirated content can be brought down to a very significant level.
