LG Optimus 3D MAX is the successor of Optimus 3D, word’s first 3D phone. Optimus 3D MAX comes at a price of Rs.30,500 in India and has a 4.3” 3D display with Gorilla Glass 2, 5MP 3D Camera, 1.2Ghz Dual Core Processor. Read on to know more about this 3D smartphone.
Look and Feel
The phone is slim and light in weight considering its 4.3” screen. The front is made up of glass which has a capacitive touch screen display, VGA front camera and four touch sensitive buttons below the display. The back is made up of good quality plastic with a nice pattern and a slight bulge at the bottom which helps to have a nice grip over the phone. The back of the phone hosts the 3D camera with LED flash and the loudspeaker.
On the left side we have the volume rocker key and a slide to open mini-USB port and on the right there is a dedicated 3D button to access 3D related content and features such as games, camera, gallery etc.
On the top we have a power/lock key and a 3.5mm jack whereas the bottom of the phone has a microphone for calls.
Performance
LG P725 has a 1.2GHz dual core processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory expandable via a micro SD card slot which has a good overall performance. We faced no issues while viewing 3D content like videos, pictures or playing 3D games, everything works like a charm.
The phone runs on Android’s Gingerbread operating system which is a downer though since the other phones in this segment have got there ICS or jellybean updates. The UI is customized by LG itself which is easy to use and looks nice on a 4.3” display. The onscreen keyboard has well spaced out keys because of the large display and the phone allows one hand typing in portrait mode which is a plus point.
The default browser is stock Android Gingerbread internet browser which performs good enough while loading webpages and zooming in or out.
3D Display
The display of the phone has a resolution of 480×800 and it is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The colours are good but not top notch and the brightness levels are a bit low due to which it is sometimes hard to operate in bright sunlight. But no complains about the viewing angles, it is quite good.
Talking about the 3D effects, yes it is capable of displaying good quality Glass free 3D content. There is a sweet spot which has to be maintained in order to enjoy the 3D content but after 4-5 minutes of continues viewing the eyes start paining so you have to take regular intervals while enjoying the 3D content. Playing 3D games, recording 3D videos, capturing 3D pictures can be done with great ease. You can always toggle between 2D to 3D or vice versa while capturing and viewing the captured content. Viewing 3D content in 2D slightly deteriorates the quality of the content but most of the times it is acceptable. There is also a 3D converting application to convert your 2D content to 3D which even converts 2D applications like Maps to 3D. But you will notice significant changes only in some of the apps, rest remains with no change at all.
Camera
LG 3D MAX has a 5MP 3D camera with a VGA front facing camera for video calling. Since the 5MP camera is capable of capturing 3D content it has two camera modules. You can easily toggle between 2D and 3D while capturing photos and videos. The camera produced great 3D pictures with adequate depth in order to get that perfect 3D effect on the screen while 2D pictures were decent enough in good lighting conditions.
The camera is capable of recording 1080p HD video while 720p in 3D. Capturing 3D videos was fun and great to watch afterwards.

Battery
3D MAX has a 1520mAh battery which drains out pretty fast if you keep on playing with the 3D capabilities of the phone but without 3D the phone can operate for upto a day with decent usage which doesn’t include gaming.
Audio Quality
The loudspeaker at the back of the phone produces crystal clear sound and the in-ear headsets produces great quality Dolby surround sound. The call quality is also good enough with no complains at all.
Conclusion
The only thing that sets LG 3D MAX P725 apart from rest of the phones in this segment is its 3D capability rest everything is similar to any other Android smartphone in the market. So if you are looking to buy a premium Android smartphone then you can consider this phone because of the added 3D capabilities. And if you are looking for a 3D smartphone then this is definitely a pick.
