Huawei Honor U8860 is Huawei’s first high end smartphone in the Indian market. The phone is priced around Rs. 20,000 in India and looking at its high end features it really looks like a steal at the first glance. Huawei Honor has a 4” capacitive touch screen, 1.4GHz processor and a 8MP camera with auto-focus. So let’s find out if it’s worth praising.
Look and Feel
The phone is made up of good quality of plastic which makes you feel comfortable while holding the device. The front is all glass and the back panel is made of plastic with a nice Huawei Logo. The finish of the back panel was something we liked a lot, it not only feels good but also gives a firm grip in hand.
The left side of the phone hosts the volume rocker buttons and there is nothing on the right side. We were expecting a dedicated camera button but it was absent. The top has the power key and a 3.5mm audio jack. And on the bottom it has a mini USB port for charging the phone and data transfer.
The back of the phone hosts the 8MP camera with flash and a loudspeaker. Huawei Honor also comes with a front facing VGA camera for video calling and you can also take pictures from the same. The front also hosts four touch sensitive buttons for options, search, home and back.
Performance
Huawei Honor comes with a 1.54GHz single core processor with 512MB of RAM. The phones runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and ICS upgrade is promised by the company. We didn’t faced any lags in the performance while the course of our review, everything worked seamlessly be it watching HD content or playing games. But touch of the phone was something which needs you to get used to it as you sometimes have to press twice get the work done. The touch sensitive buttons on the front were easy to use though.
Huawei has nicely configured the whole Android UI for the phone similar to its IDEOS X5. The unlock screen is also that we liked on both phones wherein you can directly reach to calls or camera or messages as soon as the phone is unlocked.
Honor has a 4-inch display which is very clear but the colours are not that vivid and lack the punch. The phone has a gorilla glass to prevent it from scratches but no anti-reflective coating making it difficultly to use it under the sun and thereby the viewing angles also suffer sometimes.
The 8MP camera produced decent results in good lighting conditions but don’t expect much in dark light. The pone is capable of producing 720p videos which gave average results while testing.
The phones comes with a pair wired stereo headset which spoils the whole experience of listening music with its mediocre sound quality so you should get a nice pair of headsets to get that great sound out of it.
Honor comes with a powerful 1900mAh battery which keeps the phone alive for a full day of heavy usage. The battery is removable which opens up the space for the SIM card and the micro SD card.
Huawei Honor comes with 16GB of cloud storage to backup all your personal content.
Conclusion
The phone comes with some great features at price point of Rs. 20,000 but there are many other phones in the market already doing very well in this category. So if you want a decent looking smartphone with great battery life then you can consider the Huawei Honor U8860.
