Indian Railways is the most popular means of transportation in India and largest network of railways in world. Its like a life line of India and almost every citizen travels in it once in a lifetime. IRCTC has launched their mobile site which can be accessed from any GPRS enabled mobile phone handset. To access the IRCTC mobile site you must register on the original website in order to get the login details and if you already have one then the same can be used. With the help of the IRCTC mobile site you can book tickets, cancel tickets and also know the booking history of the tickets already booked by you. It claims to be working on all on the mobile phones but in our tests it didn’t work on the Symbian S40 phone. But it was working fine on Android and iPhone.
Logging in was an easy task but entering the source and destination were quite tedious. You have to remember the code of the railway stations else you have to use the get code option which is not very accurate. Train selection is quite easy and you can view the availability and route of the train also. You can book the tickets via mobile with this IRCTC mobile site once you select the train of your choice.
This is like a dream come true for frequent travellers since they can book their tickets via their mobile phones no matter where they are. Some features which I would like to see in the IRCTC mobile site is train tracking system which helps us to know where the train is and how much time will it take to reach the required destination. Live feeds about the trains we are interested in which can include information regarding ticket availability, position, route, timings etc.
