Android Vs Apple: Which one to Choose and Why?

by guest author on September 17, 2011

One has conquered the internet, the other electronics market. Apple with its iPhones and Google with its Android OS placed in various smartphones, have conquered the mobile market as well. Majority of smartphones today run on Android. But, which is better? Apple devices have a better battery life than Android smartphones, but this alone is not the criteria for deciding the better one. So, let’s try to decode and decide which one is better.

Apple-vs-Android, apple or android

Apple and Android:

Will the robot eat the apple? That’s the question in your mind. Both of these platforms are vastly different and have pros and cons. So, we will focus on the main issues which make a phone worth buying.

Ease of Use:

First come the ease of use. You would want your phone to work smoothly. And in this Apple outperforms Android. Different manufacturers use different versions of the Android, so sometimes it becomes difficult to instantaneously get used to the device in question. And different manufacturers place user buttons in the phones differently. But Apple has only one button on the device. Easy to understand and use.

Open Source

Android OS is open source. This is what developers love about it. Apple on the other hand is known to reject apps which it finds competitive and is a little wary of being open source. This makes Android the winner.

Multitasking:

Android has a better multitasking feature as compared with the Apple promoted OS.

Battery Life:

Apple has a better battery life than Android. Android has so many features that they drain the battery faster than Apple. But the battery life varies considerably from the handset to handset.

Touch Keyboard:

Apple’s touch keyboard is much better than Android’s. Although there are many apps which have some solid keyboards, but the default version provided by Android lags behind Apple’s.

Syncing:

Apple has carried forward the old world charm of doing things by the use of wires. Users still have to connect with USB wires for updating their devices, transferring contents. And everything must involve iTunes. When compared with Google’s Android, it has better syncing capabilities than Apple.

Apps:

Now, both of these platforms come loaded with millions of apps. You cannot decide for sure which one is better in the app department. Though if you want to go only with numbers, then Apple has four times the no. of apps than Android. That makes Apple the winner in app department.

Music Player:

Apple has a better music player for sure. The Android’s default player has not been liked by users. While Apple’s music player works seamlessly.

Integration with Google apps:

If you have a Gmail account, which is very likely, then you will benefit immensely by using Android. Android is a Google product so it’s obvious that Gmail will work smoothly.

Bitter and better?

Now it’s come to the final conclusion of finding supremacy over other. Apple has a class of its own. Their devices are the best. But they have their own circle, and one feels limited. Android is being used in a large number of Smart phones, which makes it connecting with other devices easier. So, the Android can be considered the way forward.

Apple’s high cost and non-reliable feature is the back drawback.
Where as Android is much more versatile and has largest number of free apps. I choose Android over iOS. What about others?
