9 things to do after installing wordpress

getting startedWordPress is the best and most popular blogging software. Due its easy seo and other customization options it is on a different level from the rest of it competitors. So here are some most important and initial things to be done after wordpress installation.

Install WordPress theme

Install a theme of your choice. There a re loads of wordpress themes out there well suited for everyone’s need. Try experimenting with the themes you like and choose the best for your blog.

Edit permalink

Edit the permalink, make it so friendly. By default the URLs of your blog post pages will be have some number and text generated by the software automatically which is not at all SEO friendly. So setup seo friendly permalink structure

Migrating from BlogSpot to WordPress (optional)

If you are migrating from BlogSpot so you should migrate properly in order to retain your traffic and google page rank.

Install Google XML Sitemaps

Use Google XML Sitemaps plugin to generates a XML-Sitemap for your site, making the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, Ask, MSN) to easily index your site. Every time you edit or add a post, the sitemap will modify itself.

Add Google Analytics tracking code

This is a important code to be added in your blog in order to track your websites performance. You can also use other tracking  services such as sitemeter, compete, statcounter.

Set RSS

Sign-up for Feedburner. RSS is the most popular way to make your readers aware of the updates on your website.

WWW or non-WWW

Select the URL of your website that is if you want the WWW prefix before the domain name or not. For example:-techhim.com or www.techhim.com. It is your personal choice to choose the above setting. But remember to stick with it and use the same URL everywhere you need to. It is an important seo tip.

W3 Total Cache Plugin

W3 Total Cache is a very important plugin in order to decrease the loading time of your website. Search engines don’t like slow websites.

Backup Plugin

WP-DBManager- This plugin will create a backup of your blog and you can get it via e-mail on daily, weekly or monthly basis or can download directly from the plugin settings page.

These steps should be taken as soon as you start with your wordpress blog.

yes i have not still installed permalink plugin and sitemap plugin, and the most important plugin Backup plugin……..thanks for the great list bro……

Honestly that’s what i did too when i installed WordPress for the first time.

But then i realise i should cleaned up my file first before installing theme, such as wp-config-sample.php (depends how we install it)

and also check the generated key in wp-config.php.
